One Year Ago Today Across The Ocean Far, Far Away...

We decided to start a new family tradition- every year we will re-live our incredible journey to bring home Sasha Jade by watching ourselves on the computer from this side of the ocean... one year later and one year wiser... Your comments are always welcome!

Medical Exam Day,
Shamian Island, Guangzhou

After a very long train ride...and not very much sleep....we arrived two hours late to Guangzhou and just barely made it on time to leave with our group to the dreaded medical exam on Shamian Island. We expected Tian Tian to receive several immunizations and a TB test.
Here we are at the very crowded medical clinic waiting for our turn. The place was packed with screaming children and babies. I did not take any photos of the other kids and families because I wanted to respect their privacy. Trust me, this day the clinic was packed and we waited...and waited....and waited....

Finally, our turn

Sasha Tian Tian didn't seem to mind the exam very much! I thought she would be afraid.

Stickers are always a great distraction for her.
Poor baby....

I guess I made an impression with this sad face because the doctor came out and told our guide that Tian Tian was not going to get any immunizations today, even though originally we were told she would get 5, we even waited forever in a long line to pay the fees. Apparently when I told the doctor she seems to lose her balance and fall down a lot that was enough to give us a waiver! Hurray!

One adoption, two waivers later, and we are out the door of the clinic, no shots!!

  2. We also rode the train...from Nanning to Liuzhou in 1997. It wasn't nearly as nice as your train accomodations look, but it was memorable. I loved seeing those Keen sandals on the shelf in the sleeping compartment. Kristi is going to love her pink Keen sandals too, when she travels in warm, warm China in July! Thank you for sharing.
