We took the overnight train
from Shenzen to Guilin
this is our soft-sleeper compartment,
two beds and a bathroom
(western toilet- not squatty potty!)
my kids LOVED the train
we had fun with the crew
view out the window of train station
we liked the little shelf
view at night from our window
in the morning it was fun to build a fort
there was a LOT of rain in Guangxi Province
the train kept stopping for long stretches of time
Jake said these look like giant Lincoln-Logs
we brought our own noodles because we did not trust the food on the train
the conductor visited us and invited us to her home in Guilin
pretty soon the train was very delayed due to rain and flooding
so we walked around and got to know many of the locals
everyone wanted to say hello and it was
great to practice our Chinese
we sat in the dining car for a while
the train actually took eighteen hours to reach Guilin instead of eleven
this is what was served for lunch and dinner, cups of noodles
Jakey and Ava Rose were a big hit with the crew
everyone called Jake "Harry Potter",
this seems to happen everywhere we go
this seems to happen everywhere we go
I know many adoptive families
consider train travel,
we highly suggest taking a train,
consider train travel,
we highly suggest taking a train,
it's safe, enjoyable, relaxing,
and a terrific way to see China!
